The Dressmaker's Eye started out as a collection of stories, musings and reflections on life by a 30 something Chew Valley lady who happens to be (in no particular order) a dressmaker, wife, mum, school volunteer, occasional club secretary, writer, teacher, administrator, singer, receptionist, general village resident and slightly disabled person.
Sanity preserving efforts in 2012 changed the primary of purpose of this blog, when daily and then weekly diaries began of the mundane and technically boring things that happen in the everyday life of its writer. The diaries proved to be unexpectedly popular, and the writer rather enjoyed writing them, so she decided to carry on with them, even when her sanity was back in fairly safe waters (those who know her will point out that there has never been that much sanity to preserve anyway). As these went on, unexpected additions crept in - recipes, reviews of books and music, and random hints and tips for domestic trickery. It also became a useful vehicle for helping to demystify a rarely heard of but incredibly common, potentially disabling skeletal condition called Hyper-Mobility Syndrome or HMS that the writer suffers and battles with every day, but chooses to deal with by looking at the funny side of it, even when she has to search for it.
Slotted in between the dairies are the occasional articles, inspired by real life events, recorded exactly as they happened, or after having gone off and collected some fictional details along the way because they seemed to want to. Some of it will be silk and sewing machine related, but by no means all of it - there will be tales inspired by children, tales inspired by neighbours and tales inspired by the strange things you see when you're just happily driving along in the countryside.
They just all happen to have been written by a dressmaker who lives in the Chew Valley.

Weekly diary and musings on life from a disabled mother of two, craft addict, editor and admin whizz, who suffers from Hyper Mobility Syndrome, and loves to sing
My Mind is an Open Book....
My life is no more interesting that anyones else's, except that I have Hyper Mobility Syndrome which means I have to lead my life in a rather odd way and I'm prone to some rather ridiculous and amusing injuries and I've decided to write some of the funnier (or stranger) things down. After having started off publishing the occasional article, I started keeping a diary in 2012, which proved to be a success on more levels than I ever imagined.
So here you will find my diaries, my stories, lessons learnt, lessons not learnt, hints picked up through years of hard graft in odd places, recipes, book and music reviews, Chew Valley based Ramblings and HMS fueled adventures - basically the contents of my mind written down with pictures added.
